Catherine Bowen is one of South Africa’s foremost personal stylists and Dress Sense is her boutique style consultancy, established in 2007. With her background in psychology and experience in the fashion world, a career as a stylist allows her to indulge her two great loves in life: clothing and people. She has always been a people’s person which is why she chose to study a B. Soc. Sci. Psychology & Organisational Psychology from the University of Cape Town; followed by Master I & II training at Consciousness Coaching International. Catherine is passionate about assisting both individuals and companies to harness the latest seasonal trends in their personal and professional wardrobes…
As a post graduate Catherine travelled to England where she pursued her love of clothing on the high streets of London and Manchester! It is the UK, famed for its’ thriving retail sector, that developed her instinctual eye for beautiful and fashionable garments. But home and sunnier climes beckoned and she returned to South Africa. Here she became Brand Manager for KLûK CGDT where her real fashion education and stylist career began, informed by her two favourite designers: Malcolm Kluk & Christiaan Du Toit. Two years later under the careful mentorship of Robyn Cooke (a doyenne of the South African fashion industry) she received her “fashion honours”.
Catherine is one part fashionista, one part public speaker, one part motivator and one part teacher. She uses her unique combination of skills to assist individuals, organizations and brands in all matters clothing-related. The list of corporate & charitable organizations & events she’s been involved with include: Style Talks for The Rohloff Group, Afena Capital, The Ackermans A-Plus Fashion Workshop, Enablis,; Style Workshops at The Raymond Ackerman Academy at The Graduate School of Business, Bright Start Mother’s Workshop and The Clothing Bank; facilitation of The Phillip Morris Marlboro Gold Training Academy; addressing audiences at Shell’s DAWN Breakfast and The Graduate School of Business’s Women in Business Conference and at Trend Talk at The Freeworld Design Centre.
She has assisted companies, the rich & wealthy as well as the ordinary folk of Cape Town and Johannesburg in looking great… Within a 7 yr career in fashion she has appeared in several publications (Fair Lady, Oprah, YOU Makeovers, Passport) and on ETV’s Style Report… And She has styled local celebrities & personalities such as Caprice, Jo-Ann Strauss, Jeannie Dee, Ryk Neethling, Nicky Greenwall, Tamara Dey, Michelle Mc Clean, Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe, Vanashree Singh, singer Loyiso, Saskia Falken, Vanessa Raphaely and Evolver One.
