It’s late. I have returned from Day 2 of Cape Town Fashion Week… And I’m fortunate in that my first morsel of fashion was from the Grande Dame of South African Fashion herself – Jenny le Roux. This year saw the return of her laudable combination of carefree happiness and sophistication, in neatly gift-wrapped rays of colour and style.
In many respects Jenny has referenced the very on-trend 1970s silhouette that has been shown all over Europe for Spring/Summer 2011, but in another respect she has simply remained true to the Habits Legacy. Jenny has always embraced breezy and billowy shapes that lend themselves to South African summers and there were a plethora of maxi-dresses in tonight’s show that ticked this box. I loved both the floral print numbers (as seen above) in either the ditsy print or the Monet-Impressionistic version, the violet and white striped maxi could have been my favourite and then there was the whimsical cerise floaty one. Oh an I haven’t forgotten her ones in the citrus notes (tangerine and lime). This may be how I do the season’s hottest colours.
I loved the floral short dress with lime mac and the brightly coloured tanks with the clashing shirt-coats and sling bags… And I kept hoping to catch a whiff of the delicious Melissa shoes that paraded down the catwalk. Then I went to a happy place as I watched those violet pleated palazzo pants.
On a separate note I fell in love with the Twiggy-awkward-lass-Agyness-Deyn-look-alike with that short shock of ash blonde hair. Who’s that girl?? Yip a resounding two thumbs up for Ms Le Roux in a show dedicated to Jeff le Roux. And two thumbs up for riotous colour!
