Tokoyo calling – proper dandy style with label Tomorrowland…
For those of you wanting a fix of fashion and to nourish your brain with some food, I highly recommend Monocle magazine… It is the intellectual’s magazine of choice for all that’s cool. However I’m rambling because what I actually meant to say was that I discovered this super-cool Tokoyo brand in amongst its’ pages – Tomorrowland… They’re a “select-shop retailer”.
Tokoyo is quite literally a melting pot of styles where “kumiawase” (meaning “to combine”) is the order of the day – a whole generation of young dandies deftly don made-in-Japan brands and international imports. Casting one’s eye to global catwalk trends there’s a distinct Japanese design signature evident in many of the silhouettes for FW2012 – clearly the aesthetics of this culture are as catching as Avian Bird Flu.
In the words of Kenji Hall who wrote the article I stumbled upon (Monocle, October 2011 issue 47, pg163) – “The vogue among urbane Japanese men is a fusion of a bit of Italy, a stitch of Americana and a dash of English, with a Nippon twist.” To my mind when I look at these stills of their Fall Winter 2011 looks, I think their style has all the delightful, cooky charm of an English professor fused with the finesse of a Milano Man and unexpected Origami-esque flourishes. It works. I heart it.
